Heroes in Healthcare | Class of 2010

Lost in the furious debate over the cost of health care in America is the other half of the equation: We get a lot for the money that goes into the system.

The technologies, the treatments, the facilities and the people who make it all work are worth every penny to those who have benefited the most from medical services. Don’t think so? Ask any those who have been thro-ugh heart surgery or mental-health treatment, or who have brought home a child after premature delivery.

Once again, Ingram’s is proud to recognize 21 regional health-care professionals as Heroes in Healthcare, models of performance and productivity who represent the best of what our health-care system has to offer. They include those who help maintain sanitary conditions at massive hospital complexes, nurses working in private practice, volunteers who free up valuable hospital resources, CEOs who make their organizations run efficiently, nurse practitioners tending to the very smallest of patients in neonatal ICU wards, and more.

As you read their stories, you will see the reach they have brought to their workplaces, and you’ll see how many lives they have touched—and how powerful some of those connections have been.

We may have a long way to go as a nation to work out the cost kinks of healthcare delivery. As we work to get there, it’s worth pausing to reflect on the accomplishments of those who have dedicated their own lives to maintaining, improving and restoring the health of others. Ingram’s salutes all of those heroes out there, as well as the 21 you will meet in the following pages.
